Google Nexus 10 – Review

Google’s Nexus 10 is not scheduled for release until November 13, 2012, however users will be looking forward to the new iPad alternative, as Google will surely make interesting additions once the device is launched.

According to CNET, the Nexus 10 is possibly one of the best alternatives to the iPad, however Apple’s flagship tablet is not easily outdone in terms of being robust, with a great application environment. If you are in the market for a non-Apple product and are not impressed with the ‘Transformer Infinity’, the Nexus 10 would be the device for you. The Transformer Infinity scores higher in terms of a better back camera and a better device charger, but the Nexus has other features which puts it miles ahead of all competition, other than Apple of course.

The Nexus 10 has a fantastic screen and is one of the easiest 10-inch screens to hold, it is fairly durable as well. Photo Sphere, which is an Android 4.2 feature, allows you capture three-dimensional representations of the world around you and is one of the most interesting of recent apps.

On the downside, the tablet does not have a competent charger. You will need to keep the charger plugged in overnight, or else the micro-USB port will not be able to keep the device charged. Google is expected to release a magnetic pogo charger though, which should do a better job. The device could have been easier to navigate and the lack of storage expansion does hurt.

The Nexus 10 costs USD 399 for the 16 GB version and USD 499 for the 32 GB version, which is cheaper than Apple’s USD 499 for the 16 GB iPad and USD 599 for the 32 GB version.

Overall it is a great device, second only to the iPad in the 10-inch segment, however the Nexus 7 is still the best 7-inch tablet, beating the iPad-mini in the segment.
