Search engine heavyweight Google has announced its 6th annual ‘Doodle 4 Google’ contest in the US on January 15, 2013, aimed at students from kindergarten up to year 12. The winners of the competition will see their artwork appearing on the search engine’s homepage, along with a USD 50,000 grant for their school and a USD 30,000 college scholarship.

On Google’s blog the company wrote that the artwork on the site is meant to engage and delight people when they visit their homepage. The internet company wanted to share their vision of creativity and said that they would not be in existence if they did not follow their creativity, imagination and passion. It is these values that the search engine scion would like to see in the children of the future.
In 2012 around 114,000 children entered the contest, which included a variety of guest judges helping to make the call as to what appears on the site and what gets left out. The theme for 2013 is ‘My Best Day Ever’.
May 1, 2013 is the day that has been set aside to vote for a winner from each US state in the contest. March 22, 2013 is the last day for entries, after which the selection process begins. The winner will be announced on May 22, 2013 in New York City, with the winning Doodle being displayed the very next day on the website.
