New Dell XPS 18 – Gadget review

Dell is now pushing its new XPS 18 computer, which it is promoting to be the slimmest all-in-one PC currently on the market. The Dell XPS 18 is a fully touchscreen device which runs the desktop version of Windows 8. The device looks like an oversize tablet, but is fairly portable and comes with a stand that allows it to be propped up on a desk.

The screen of the XPS 18 is an 18.4-inch, full 1080p HD display. From the side, the computer measures 4.3 mm and weighs in at 2.2 Kg. Even though it looks like a tablet, this machine is quite powerful. It can be used to play multiplayer games and offers up to 5 hours of battery life.

Under the hood, the XPS 18 runs an Intel Core ULV 2117U processor for the base model, along with 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB of hard drive space and an 8:1 media card reader. The higher end XPS 18 AiO can be upgraded with a 500 GB hard drive, with SSD as an option. It can also be pushed to run on an Intel Core i7 processor with HD 4000 graphics as well. The memory can also be upgraded to 8GB.

This new computer from Dell looks like a move to bridge the gap between hand held devices and rigid desktop machines. It will retail for USD 899.
