Sony Xperia Z tablet up for pre-order

Smartphone manufacturing giant Sony had unveiled its water resistant Xperia Z tablet a while ago. All those who were eagerly waiting for the device can now rejoice as the wait is over and the tablet is up for pre-order in the US market. Sony enthusiasts can own the 16GB version of the device for $499 and it will be available black only.

The 32GB model will be available in black and white for $599.99 and pre-orders will be shipped on May 24, 2013. People who order the 32 GB Xperia Z tablet in white, from now to May 24, 2013, will receive a free charging cradle which costs $44.99. The device from Sony was first unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in the month of February, while the Xperia Z is a 10.1-inch Android tablet.

The company claims that it is the thinnest tablet at just 0.27 inches. The tablet weighs just 1.1 pounds and is significantly lighter than the Apple iPad, which weighs 1.44 pounds. The Xperia Z is a perfect device for those who are prone to accidents, as the device is water resistant in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes at a time.

The Tablet will be launched on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform, but the company has promised a 4.2 upgrade.
