Sony to announce Bluetooth lens attachment for iPhones and Android devices

On August 12, 2013, a set of images were leaked online, claiming to depict a device from the electronics manufacturer Sony, which aims to turn smartphones like the iPhone into something which can be perceived as a full-fledged camera. The device in the pictures is reportedly Sony’s ‘lens-camera’, which is packed with a high-end point-and-shoot camera into a lens which can be attached to a smartphone.

The device can also be paired with an Android or iOS app with the help of Bluetooth. Sony has been planning to release two variants, out of which one will have the same sensor-lens pairing from the Sony RX100, which is one of Sony’s more celebrated point-and-shoot cameras in recent times. Other features will include a 1-inch, 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor with a 2/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens.

The other device will have an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor with 10x zoom lens, which is similar to the $400 Sony WX150. The models in question are the DSC-QX10 and the DSC-QX100, which will feature built-in camera sensors, Binz processors, near-field communications connectivity, Wi-Fi, and an SD card slot.

So far, no release date has been mentioned as the devices are not even officially announced.
