Microsoft’s latest Surface tablets almost sold out

A group of developers from the software giant Microsoft in a recent tweet revealed that the Windows RT and the Windows 8.1 versions of the company’s Surface tablet are in short supply. However, this information is a bit vague and it is still not clear what is the exact number of devices in stock.

However, the company did say that it soon might become a problem to find Surface tablets. Earlier on October 4, 2013 a tweet from developers stated that the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 are close to selling out completely. For now, it is not clear what the company actually meant by that when it comes to figures. However, potential buyers are safe when it comes to the company’s Surface RT tablet, as Microsoft made more tablets than it can sell.

The company in July 2013 booked  a $900 million write-down for excess Surface inventory, but stated that it generated just $853 million in revenue from the Surface RT and Surface Pro, ever since their debut in the fall. However, Microsoft did not get rid of the remaining tablets, but continued to offer the product at a lower price, along with its updated versions.

The Surface 2 is Microsoft’s complete laptop in a tablet design, while the Surface 2 runs a stripped-down version of the Windows 8. The software giant started pre-orders for the devices on September 24, 2013 and they are all set to hit the stores on October 22, 2013.
