Sony releases SmartWatch 2 and two Xperia phones for US market

As the popularity of wearable gadgets is slowly increasing, tech giant Sony has on October 15, 2013 announced the availability of its SmartWatch 2, along with two waterproof Xperia smartphones – which will be available as unlocked devices – the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra.

The latest device is the second-generation smartwatch from Sony, which is compatible with any of the Android smartphones that run on Android 4.0 or later. The new SmartWatch 2 for the US market has been priced at $199.95 at the company’s own retail outlets, as well as online at store.sony.com. The device will also be available at selected online retail partners.

Sony is claiming that within just a few minutes of turning the SmartWatch 2 on, its users will be able to check messages, calendar events, emails, Facebook notifications, Twitter and much more. The next version of the SmartWatch was first unveiled in June 2013 and has longer battery life than the previous model. Sony also said that in standard usage, it offers three to four days of battery life.

The SmartWatch is water-resistant and features NFC pairing capabilities, but it also functions as a regular old watch with an alarm and timer built in it.
