Facebook introduces redesigned Like and Share buttons

Social networking giant Facebook has made some changes and redesigned its iconic buttons for ‘Like’ and ‘Share’. This is the first time that the company has changed the design, ever since its famous button ‘Like’ was introduced in 2010.

The old thumbs up button is now gone and is being replaced by a lower case ‘f’, however, the silhouette of a thumbs up button is still visible in counters above certain buttons. Users will also be allowed to display the ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ buttons in various ways on the site. This means that the two buttons could be placed side by side, or the ‘Share’ button all by itself.

While talking about the reason behind the change, the social network stated that it believes that the new buttons will generate more social sharing and so far, it seems like it is working. Facebook software engineer Ray C. He in an official blog said, “We’re already seeing a favorable increase in Likes and Shares with the new design and will be rolling these buttons out to everyone in the coming weeks.”

He went on to say that if users still have the old ones installed on the site, they do not have to worry. The new buttons will be rolled out gradually and it will be good if the social network increases the number of likes and shares.
