Amazon reveals Octocopter project for package delivery

Internet retail giant Amazon has a new project and is planning to make deliveries in the future with the help of flying drones. The retail giant has named the project ‘Octocopter’ and it will include the drones flying packages directly to the doorstep in 30 minutes.

The CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos said that the new technology needs more safety precautions and FAA approvals. He assured that the delivery by drones will be available for customers in 4 to 5 years and this service will be called Amazon Prime Air. The project has been under development for many months, after which representatives from Amazon started hinting that they might reveal what they have been working on during ’60 Minutes’.

Draggan Mihailovich, the producer of 60 Minutes said, “I only knew that there was a surprise coming. I had no idea what it was. They kept saying over and over again, ‘Whatever you think it is, it isn’t.” However, he became skeptical when the Amazon PR team began to hype their surprise behind the scenes. When the drones were finally revealed, Mihailovich and Nathalie Sommer, the associate producer, were perplexed.

Bezos then played a Prime Air demo video for the ’60 Minutes’ team, which showed how the devices picked up packages in small yellow buckets and went through air to deliver them.
