Samsung KNOX receives public sector approval from UK government

The government of UK has released a security guideline in order to use Samsung KNOX on select Samsung handheld devices, which gives the devices the approval for public sector use. The decision came after months of testing which has been conducted by the Communications and Electronics Security Group (CESG).

CESG is a body in the UK which addresses communications security. The End User Devices Security Guidance has an effect on Samsung devices with Android 4.3 and the company’s enterprise security platform KNOX. It also offers enhanced hardware and software protection, as well as per-app VPN capability, device encryption and a secure app store.

The company’s devices which are available in the UK are reportedly covered by the guidance and include Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5. The move comes after earlier CESG certification for the company’s smartphones and tablets with Android 4.2.2, the US Department of Defense approval for KNOX, as well as Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection Profile Common Criteria Certification, which has been given to the Samsung Galaxy range.

The SVP of KNOX Business, IT and Mobile Communications Division at Samsung, Injong Rhee said that Samsung devices with KNOX are already deployed all over the world across the private sector, but thanks to the significant recognition, government agencies across the country will be able to adopt Samsung KNOX enabled Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
