Android Lollipop begins to roll out for Nexus, Moto devices

Google makes it official as the Android Lollipop begins to roll out for Nexus, Moto devices.

After a slight delay, Google is finally seeding the latest software update to its Nexus users from today, November 13, 2014. Traditionally, the update takes a few weeks to get to all the Nexus devices. In the meantime, Lenovo-owned Motorola announced that it would also be seeding the latest Android Lollipop update to its Moto G (Second Generation) and Moto X Pure Edition users.

Other than the Moto G, the Nexus devices that would be receiving the Android update include: Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi only) and Nexus 10. Google made the announcement via the official Android Twitter page. The updates will be sent over-the-air (OTA), so everyone must keep an eye on that notification bar on their phones.

The software was initially supposed to roll out on November 3, 2014, but Google withheld its release after a bug was detected. The bug caused a severe battery drain in Nexus 5 devices when the phone was connected to Wi-Fi. For those who cannot wait to get the update, Google has put up factory images of the software on their website, where people can download and flash it on their phones.

However, the problem with this method is that none of the data will be saved. With the Lollipop, Google has introduced something they like to call ‘Material Design’, which is an overhaul of the look and feel of the software. The design adds fresh animation and a flatter look to the Android.
