Facebook working on news app for breaking news alerts on mobile

Social networking giant Facebook is reportedly working on a decentralized new app which will provide breaking news notifications and links to the mobile phones of the users. News readers, usually download a news app to get the latest updates on current affairs.

The app by Facebook is currently in its early stages and the users will have to subscribe to various news feeds from a curated list and wait for the breaking news to flash. When the breaking news hits the publications will automatically push alerts to the phones of the subscribers. It will have a 100 character blurb with a link to the coverage on the website of the publication.
The news app for Facebook is not complicated and is limited to notifications and links and the social network has not forced the publication to format their news content for stylized reader app or its instant articles. The users will also have the option to set up mobile notifications for the favourite news website’s Twitter account or install their app.
The social network has at present selected just a few companies to launch its app with. Facebook is trying hard to maintain its position in the social network and is spreading its wings in to more fields.
