YouTube experimenting with Explore feature for users to explore more options

Video sharing giant YouTube is currently looking in to experimenting with the new Explore feature that will help the users to search and find for new channels and videos on the platform while they are browsing on the mobile. The new feature will pop up like a tab at the bottom of the home screen of the app which will be for selected one percent of the iOS users. Tom Leung, the director of Product Management at YouTube revealed about the experiment being conducted on YouTube.

The feature Explore will recommend the users videos based on what they are already watching, but with a wider scope as the home screen already does the work. Leung said, “Explore is designed to help you be exposed to different kinds of topics, videos, or channels that you might not otherwise encounter, but they’re still personalized — so they’re still based on your viewing activity.” The new feature might not be new as the new Explore tab can be similar to the Explore tab that is offered by Instagram but could be also a personalized channel for the user.

This can also include feeds which are dedicated to sports, science, art and for more users that can be scrolled. Even micro blogging site Twitter provides a similar service that allows the users to scroll through different types of feeds which are not necessarily full of people that they follow.

If the online sharing site decided to rollout the new feature then it would mean more subscribers and users spending more time on the app.
