Software giant Microsoft is taking its office tools to a different level. The users of Microsoft PowerPoint will be able to translate and transcribe the speech of the presenter in real time. The new accessibility feature is one that will help the audience speakers to sure that their presentations are understood by the whole audience.
Microsoft has noted that such a feature can be useful where the audience members cannot hear properly or speak a different language than the presenter. Under such circumstances, the presentation of the speaker might not be fully or properly communicated. However, the new tools introduced might solve such issues. PowerPoint can soon be able to transcribe and caption what the speaker is saying in real-time and will give the audience members the option of reading what the presenter is saying.
The new tool will also be able to translate speech in to different languages and subtitles the presentation in to the language of the speaker’s choice. During the launch of the new tool the AI powered tool will be able to support 12 spoken languages and will also be able to display captions or subtitles in more than 60 languages. The software giant has also said that the speech recognition technology will allow the tool to adapt to what is being presented in PowerPoint so as to provide more accurate recognition of names and terminology.
The audience will be able to see captions and subtitles on the screen and will also have the ability to adjust their size, appearance and position. Microsoft had earlier in 2018 announced that it wanted to use artificial intelligence for social good and also launched an AI for accessibility programming to fulfill the particular goal. The company also showed some of the accessibility features that it was working on for Windows 10. The Live captions and subtitles feature will begin rolling from January 2019 and will be available for Office 365 users who use PowerPoint for Windows 10, PowerPoint Online and PowerPoint for Mac.
