Xiaomi launches new Mi Play smartphone with a notch

Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi is known for making the most competitive smartphones in the already saturated market. The smartphone market has grown a lot in recent times and Xiaomi has faced a lot of competition from other brands. The company has now launched a new phone the Mi Play on December 24, 2018 and yes it has a notch.

The new Mi Play has a circular camera notch that does not have the hole-punch design like that it seen on the Samsung and Huawei devices. But the smartphone camera is centre aligned. It is a water droplet notch which is still a notch even if it is round. At the rear, the device has dual rear facing cameras which are vertically aligned like the Apple’s iPhone X line. The company is offering color choices with trendy gradient in purple or red.

In terms of specifications, include 5.84 inch 1080 X 2280 display with MediaTek P35 processor, 4 GB RAM with 64 GB of storage. The Mi Play has a powerful 3,000 mAh battery with a micro USB charging port and rear mounted fingerprint sensor. Earlier in 2018 the company had introduced a phone that did not have a notch with the flagship Mi Mix 3. The device started from $475 and relied on the mechanical pop up camera.

The new Mi Play features a notch with large bezels and begins at 1,099 yuan or $160. Meanwhile Xiaomi has also announced an Android web browser known as the Xiomi Mint browser. The new browser seems like a direct take on the existing Chrome and has already been uploaded to the Play stores a nd is available for free download. The new browser is light at about just 12 MB and promises to pick up at a whirlwind speed. Some of the features include integrated voice search that allows the users to search and navigate the browser through a voice tag. Xiaomi has claimed that the browser is AdFree but can change in time to come as the company is known for pushing ads to its MIUI based smartphones.
