Google Maps brings back the Snake game on April Fools Day

April Fools Day is one of the annual highlights at Google and in par with Google I/O as the company directs many resources to develop most elaborate Easter Eggs. Google’s service Google Maps is almost certainly always a part of the yearly festivities after the 2015 resurrection of Pac Man and last year’s Where’s Waldo. This time, the search engine has invited to play the good old Snake on the people’s favourite mapping service.

The games rules have not changed as you have to swipe to the direction you want to go or use the arrow keys on the desktop. The visuals of Google differ a bit from the original 1997 Nokia hit. The Snake game on Google is an 8 bit train that grows longer and longer with every person you pick up from a city or the world and depends on which map you play on. This means that the users can select seven different 8 bit places to play on, Sao Paulo, London, Cairo, Sydney, San Francisco, Tokyo and World. Every map has a different train and landmarks that can be picked up along people.

For instance when in London, the users pass the London Eye, Big Ben and the Tower Bridge all while your train is actually a classic London red double-decker bus. The users get one point per person you pick up and bonus points for every sight that you visit. The users turned gamers will also be rewarded with a black tea break. On the other hand on the World Map, the users can visit the country defining landmarks like the Great Wall Of China or Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro and the interesting part is that the users travel by train and not by airplane.

May be Google is encouraging for a more environmental friendly travel. To begin the game, go to the Google Maps app and head to the hamburger menu and tap Play Snake.
