Instagram to cut down inappropriate content

Photo sharing site Instagram has now become more serious in terms of the content. Just a few weeks back it was noticed that Tumblr had introduced a ban on adult content. Instagram is now moving towards the same direction and has announced a fresh crackdown on inappropriate content. The new move has been taken after a few changes within Facebook which is Instagram’s parent company.

As per the breakdown, the posts are, “inappropriate but do not go against Instagram’s Community Guidelines” and will no longer be visible on the explore or hashtag pages. The statement reads, “For example, a sexually suggestive post will still appear in Feed if you follow the account that posts it, but this type of content may not appear for the broader community in Explore or hashtag pages”.

The content that is in question can be anything from adult content to spam or violence. The photo sharing site will continue to remove content that steps outside of the Community Guidelines but they will be upping its regulation in terms of low quality content. Will Ruben, the Instagram product manager talked about the details on how the company is being careful about how they define what is non-recommendable.

While determining which accounts have to be barred from the recommendations, past behaviors of certain accounts are taken in to consideration. So if the user already has a post removed from Instagram, the account may be on a ban from having their posts shared on Explore pages of hashtags.
