Opera launches Opera GX, a gaming browser

Norwegian software company Opera Software, known for its Opera web browser, launched a custom version of its browser dedicated to its online gamers and streamers. It is known as the Opera GX and the browser comes with dedicated features that allows the users to limit the browser’s access to computer resources like the CPU processor and RAM memory.

The intension is to provide the gamers with a way to navigate the web while leaving resources available for the games or streaming applications that the player might also be running at the same time. Maciej Kocemba, the product director of Opera GX said, “Running a game might require a lot of effort from your machine. Even more so if you are streaming while you play. Before Opera GX, gamers often shut down their browsers to not slow down their gaming experience. We came up with the GX Control feature to make people’s games run more smoothly without requiring them to compromise on what they do on the Web.”

Apart from the GX control panel which allows the users to manage CPU and RAM usage limits, OPERA GX also comes with Twitch integration. This means that the users can log in to their Twitch accounts with the help of the browser’s sidebar. Logging in to service with the help of the sidebar has been a feature since long on Opera but until now, it had only supported services like WhatsApp, VK, Facebook Messenger and Telegram. Moreover, the Opera GX browser will also sport a new design that makes use of neon-like highlights for the main UI elements of the browser.

The neon highlights are customizable and the users can switch from the standard red to another highlight color of their choice. The Opera GX team has also added sound effects that are inspired by the gaming to the browser interface and can be turned off if it is annoying to the gamers.
