OnePlus admits sending OnePlus 7 Pro users spam notifications

The day for the OnePlus 7 Pro users started with receiving strange and weird spam notifications. The first notification saw a random arrangement of letters in English that did not make any sense and the second one had Chinese characters. This might first sound like a spam attack, but then OnePlus in a Tweet confirmed that the error was a result of an internal test at the company.

The company acknowledged the issue and is currently assessing the cause that was behind the spam notifications that had left the OnePlus 7 Pro owners surprised. Several OnePlus 7 Pro users took their Twitter accounts to share screenshots of the two spam notifications and expressed concern as to what they might be. The spam notification that had letters in English language, did not make any sense while the one that had Chinese characters had translated to ‘Haha’.

Another affected OnePlus 7 Pro users who had tapped on the notification was redirected to a page that read ‘browser not found’. It was observed that random OnePlus 7 Pro users across the globe had received spam notifications on the phones. However, the company was quick to acknowledge the issue and revealed that the spam notifications was because of the internal test that was conducted by the OxygenOS team which accidentally sent out global push notifications to the OnePlus 7 Pro users.

OnePlus in a Tweet explained, “During an internal test, our OxygenOS team accidentally sent out a global push notification to some OnePlus 7 Pro owners”. The company added that it is at present investigating the error that caused the dispersal of the spam notifications and has also promised to share more details soon. At the same time, the true extent of the issue and the actual number of the affected uses of OnePlus 7 Pro is yet to be revealed. The new smartphone by OnePlus was revealed on May 14, 2019.
