The smartphone business is one of the most important sector for the South Korean giant Samsung. The firm has now appointed Roh Tae-moon as the new CEO of the smartphone division. Roh will be taking over the post from DJ Koh, who had taken over his position in 2015. However, DJ Koh will remain with Samsung and will be the head of the IT and mobile communications arm of Samsung. With the new appointment Roh has become the third CEO since the past many years. It was JK Shin who had held the position even before DJ Koh. Shin had held his position for about six years.
Roh new not new to Samsung and has been working with Samsung since 1997. He was responsible to develop the popular Galaxy line up of the company and is also known for his skills in engineering and design. Roh in the upcoming days will be trying his best to bring up the reputation of Samsung that went down in recent times over quality and competition. Samsung in recent times has been struggling with its smartphones due to competition and a few times it also managed to disappoint many gadget enthusiasts.
Under the management of Koh, Samsung was forced to take away the Galaxy Note 7 and also delayed the launch of the much awaited Galaxy Fold as it faced issues with its display. New CEO Roh will be focusing on bringing up its already popular Galaxy Fold devices and will be trying hard to bring the foldable devices in the mainstream. Samsung under the new leadership will be expanding in China and India with its new ideas.
Roh is also known to be the price cutter as he has earlier outsourced the smartphone production so it could compete with its rivals in the market like Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei. The new CEO will be able to work with immediate effect as the flagship Galaxy S20 is all set to be unveiled at an event on February 11, 2020.
