WhatsApp to introduce self-destructing feature

WhatsApp is one of the popular instant messaging applications. Since its inception, the makers of the application have introduced a number of features that the users demanded time to time. Now the application is all set to launch a new feature for the beta version of the application. WhatsApp is testing a new self-destructing messages feature, which means that the messages that are sent by the users will be timed after which they will be deleted or self-destructed.

It is similar to the stories feature on the current app where the users post pictures and videos and it remains on the story for 24 hours after which it automatically gets deleted. The new feature will allow the users to time the text that has been sent but the feature will be restricted to the private and group chats. The fresh feature is expected to be rolled out in the future updates. The fresh features were found in the Android versions 2.20.84 and 2.20.83 and the option to self destruct the messages was found in the private chats only.

The users were given a choice that they could send text messages that can be destructed in one day, one hour, one week or one month or in one year. The app has many features but still reports suggests that the feature continues to remain disabled on the app. Talking about other features, the instant messaging app had earlier launched the Dark-Mode feature but it cannot be said as to when the self-destructing message feature will be launched as it seems like a distant plan.

WhatsApp was launched as a freeware in January 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum. It currently allows, instant messaging, text messaging, voice messages, video calls and voice calls. The service asks the users to register themselves through their mobile numbers. It has now become the primary means of communication in India, Pakistan, Latin America, large parts of Europe, United Kingdom, France and Spain.
