Google Play early launches Kids tab with teacher-approved apps

The coroanvirus pandemic has led to lockdowns in many cities and nations which has forced the school children to stay at home as the schools have also been shut as a precautionary measure. While some schools try sending homework to kids or through virtual assistance, Google is now helping parents to find some kid-friendly content. The search engine has on April 16, 2020 introduced a new Kids tab on its Google Play and the interesting part is that they will have a new badge which will be called as ‘teacher approved’.

Every app which is kid-friendly has been rated on the basis of factors like age-appropriateness, enrichment and experience. The parents will have an option to review the ratings before they actually download. Talking about the ‘teacher approved’ badge, even if the users are searching for apps out of the Kids tab, they will still have the badge, which means that they will be reviewed by actual educators. Google since the past few years has been working closely with the teachers to make apps which are fun as well as educational for the children. Moreover, it has also worked with the educational experts from the institutes like Harvard’s Graduate School of Education and Georgetown University.

Google in a blog post wrote that they trust the teachers who can help to enrich the children in school and that they are thankful that they have shared their skills and knowledge to rate the apps that the children use when they are not able to attend school. The search engine is launching the Kids tab earlier than it had planned while explaining that it has got a positive feedback and could also be useful at a time when a number of nations are locked down and people are at home.

Google has also assured that it will be adding content as soon as possible and in the mean time the users can lookout for some of the favourite applications from the list.
