Google Meet video conferencing is now free for all

The coronavirus pandemic has forced many people to work from home so as to stay safe from the infection. As a result many people had to find ways to interact with each other by finding new ways and software to interact with their colleagues effectively. Google had then taken a step by offering its enterprise and education customers the Google Meet videoconferencing for free through the G Suite. But now the search engine has opened the Google Meet facility for everyone and anyone who has a Google account can be able to create free meetings for up to 100 people and that can last any amount of time.

For now no time limit has been put in place but after September 30, 2020 Google might restrict the meeting length to 60 minutes. But it is the Google account requirement which is not going to be so easy. It is not going to be so easy like clicking on a link and joining a meeting. People need to log in first. This means that the meetings are going to be controlled by the host and might also eliminate any possibility of online threats. The search engine will also be introducing a few safety measures for the users. The users who are not directly added to a meeting through a calendar invite will be made to enter a green room from where they will be able to join a meeting and they will be allowed only when the host permits them.

The safety measures have been introduced by Google so that it could differentiate itself from Zoom, which noticed a significant rise in recent times and had dominated the other giants like Microsoft and Google. Zoom was also in news for its security flaws. But the search engine continues to be confident as there are still people who do not trust Zoom completely.

Despite many clarifications from Zoom, its operations continue to be doubtful.
