Apple gains patent for taking group selfie while being socially distanced

The world is currently going through the coronavirus pandemic and still there is no vaccine that can be administered on individuals who could remain safe from it. Amidst the pandemic, taking group selfies could be risky as it requires people to come closer physically so that people could fit in to the frame. But now Cupertino based tech giant Apple has come up with a new technology that can generate a synthetic group selfies.

This means that the new tech can help people to take a group selfie even while they are socially distanced. The Apple device user has to invite others to take part in a group selfie and the software will arrange them in to a group selfie which will be a single image. It is still not clear, if the new feature will be available on iPads, iPhones or both. The group selfie can include still images, stored video images or images from live streaming.

The best part is that the users will have the liberty to have the original selfie or the group version or both. The original user or the recipients of the image can modify the selfie. For instance, they can arrange themselves in a different position if they like. The new technology seems great for the current situation as the entire globe is undergoing a pandemic situation and social distancing measures continue to remain in place.

Apple had first filed for the patent in 2018 and was granted on June 2, 2020. This means that the concept was not developed with the current situation in mind. But like always, it cannot be said as to when the technology could be actually brought to work on the devices. Taking selfies and group selfies has become a trend among the youngsters and the latest smartphones with good camera quality allows the users to take more of them. Companies are now keep on introducing new technology to the camera features to make them more attractive for the youngsters.
