Google Duo can soon send invite links for group video calls

Online video calling platforms have become more popular during the coronavirus induced lockdown period as most of the people were forced to work from home. Zoom was the first to gain popularity among the users and later Google stepped in by making its Meet free to all the users gradually for the lockdown period. Now Google’s Duo video calling platform has allowed the users to send invite links on mobile. The latest feature has made the Duo a tough competitor for Zoom.

Google Meet is the search engine’s fully-featured platform that has been designed specifically for businesses, but the Duo is a mobile-friendly and consumer friendly application. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, more people ended up using the video conferencing platform for official meetings and even casual hangouts. The scale was much higher than it usually would have been on a normal basis. The situation forced Google to introduce more prominent features to all of its chat applications and that included Duo.

Recently, the application also improved its call quality and that was possible as Google supported the new AV1 codec and the Duo also supports 12 people together on a call. The search engine then made the Google Meet calls available for free to the consumers till April as people across the globe needed a more powerful and robust option for video conferencing on the desktop and a laptop. However, in future the meetings would be restricted to just 60 minutes.

The invite links on Duo was first announced earlier in May, 2020. It was a part of the much bigger feature launch that would include a planned web support, which is still underway. The Invite links would be introduced soon and it can also be confirmed that they are active in the older version of the application. So people who wish to create a Duo call and add more people to it then they can do so by sending dedicated invite link once the group call has been created.
