HTC announces launch of its first 5G smartphone

For those who had thought that HTC has gone out of the smartphone race, here is some news. The company is returning with not one but two new smartphones the HTC U20 5G and the HTC Desire 20 Pro. The devices were announced on June 17, 2020 and the U20 5G will be the first 5G smartphone by the company.

What makes the U20 5G interesting is its Snapdragon 765G processor and has been priced mid-range at $640. However, the device will be first launched only in the home country Taiwan and will be up for pre-orders on July 1, 2020. The company will be making the announcement of its availability for the rest of the markets soon. The device has a 6.8 inch screen with a hole punch on the top-left corner. The bottom of the phone has a chin and has an LCD display, which means that there is the old capacitive reader at the back instead of the in-screen reader.

There are four cameras on the back with a 48MP main, 8 MP wide-angle and 2MP depth cam and a 2MP macro lens. It is powered by 8 GB RAM with 256 GB Storage while other features include the NFC, USB-C, MicroSD and minus a headphone jack. The device only supports sub-6GHz 5G.

While talking about the dimensions, it is huge and is bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. The big size surely means that it has a big batter with 5000 mAh. HTC was surely struggling for its existence, but it got a new life when it collaborated with Google in 2018. But despite the deal, the company had to remove some 2000 people from its smartphone division. It has been removing its employees since 2017, when it had about 10,000 employees. But now as of March, 2020 it has about 3,500 employees and a new smartphone amidst the crisis comes as a surprise.
