Fitbit launches update to check on oxygen saturation levels

The coronavirus pandemic is a time when the oxygen saturation levels are important for the body. There are oxymeters which are available in the market that help to determine the oxygen saturation in the blood. But the Fitbit wearable device users now have an easier way to determine oxygen saturation levels. The wearable device manufacturer has launched an update through an application for the wearable devices by Fitbit. The application is available to download through the Fitbit app.

The application allows the app to switch between the views of everyday activity goals, heart rate, oxygen saturation, step count and floors climbed. The new app is called as the new SpO2 Signature and is compatible with all the devices for the Fitbit Versa and the Ionic lines. It is also compatible with the Fitbit Versa 3 along with the upcoming Fitbit Sense.

Fitbit in a blog post announced the new app and informed that the oxygen saturation when the person is awake is generally between 95 to 100 percent while it could be lower during the night time but continues to remain above 90 percent. If there are some big changes in the oxygen saturation level, then that could happen during the night time and could also be a sign of a health condition like sleep apnea. This is when the breathing stops and begins overnight. Such a condition could also affect the sleep and could leave you tired when you wake up in the morning.

The company has said that the SpO2 Signature clock face and the Fitbit smartwatch will be able to track the average SpO2 figures when the user is sleeping. After it is available, the users need to install the SpO2 clock face and go to sleep while wearing the watch with the clock face. When the user wakes up, within an hour the user will be able to see the average SpO2 and range. The users can also expect to have more SpO2 clock faces to be released by 2020.
