Google Photos to end free unlimited storage

Search engine giant Google offered unlimited free photo backups for about five years. The service was loved by a majority of people who loved to have their content in high quality. Google Photos will start charging for the storage, if it exceeds more than 15 gigs on the account. The fresh change will be applicable from June 1, 2020. The new announcement is a part of a few other changes in the policy like counting the Workspace documents and spread sheets in the same cap.

The search engine has also said that it will be deleting data from the accounts which are inactive and that the users of such accounts have not logged in for at least two years. Talking about the storage, the pictures and documents that have been uploaded before June 1, will not be counted against the 15 GB Cap. So there is no need to hurry, as there is plenty of time to decide if the users would like to continue using Photos or would like to Switch to another cloud storage service for the pictures. The pictures that are uploaded after June 1, 2020 will be counting against the cap.

The service is currently counting ‘original quality’ picture uploads against the storage cap but the limited storage capacity will now surely take away the biggest selling point of the service. This is the photo service, where the users never had to worry about how much storage you had. But the Pixel smartphone owners will be able to upload pictures of high quality (but not original)for free after June 1, 2020. Those images will not be counted against the cap. This particular deal is nothing like getting unlimited storage for original quality , but is surely a perk for people who buy the Google devices.

The search engine has also pointed out that it offers more storage space for free compared to other services. When the user begins to approach the cap, the user will start getting warnings and notifications.
