Google Workspace users can continue to create content until 2022

It was in the month of November, 2020 when search engine giant Google had announced that its Sheets, Docs, Slides and other Workspace related files would be counted towards storage caps. The new arrangement is expected to begin from June 1, 2021 but the users of Workspace will be given an extension until 2022. For the Google Workspace accounts like the free personal accounts, they would soon get their high-quality uploads in Google Photos that would count towards the Drive quota in the month of June, 2021. This means that there would not be any change in this milestone.

At the same time the newly created Sheets, Docs, Slides, Drawings, Jamboard files or Forms by the Workspace users will not be counted towards the storage until February 1, 2022. The existing files from the same products will not be counted towards storage unless they are modified on or before February 1, 2022. But these rules will be exempted for Google Keep and Sites. For the curious administrators they can check the Apps usage user report for a deeper look at the storage usage across the organization.

The search engine is working on some of the new space management tools. The delay has been announced by Google to make sure that the new admin tools are in place before the policy comes in to effect. The new tools are being made to identify and manage how the storage is used and allocated.

The Google Workspace is a collection of cloud computing used for productivity and also has collaborative tools and was launched in 2006 as Google Apps. It was then rebranded as G Suite in 2016. It contains Currents used for employee management, Drive for storage and Google Docs Suite for creation of content. The Workspace is different as it has enterprise features like the custom email addresses at a domain. It has an option for unlimited Drive storage.
