Search engine giant Google is all set to launch a fresh set of rules from June 1, 2021. With the introduction of the new set of rules, there are possibilities that some of the uses might not find the Drive, Photos or Gmail services. These are some of the popular service by the search engine giant and are widely used. As per the new terms, the company will be able to delete the personal files of the users which are stored on the servers. The surprising part is that it can be done even without the need of permissions.
The big and dramatic update was first announced in the month of December 2020. Google had then emailed its users about how the changes could reflect them. The email that was sent by the search engine had mentioned about the new storage policies for the Google Accounts who use Gmail, Google Drive or Google Photos. This means that people who have their family pictures, private emails, along with some important documents that you don’t want to lose need to wake up and have a backup. However, there are expectations that the impact would be minimal. The initiative has been taken by the search engine so as to do some cleaning during spring time as this is when the users stop using these services.
In order to deal with the problem, Google is allowing its users two years to log in to their accounts. People who remain away from their accounts for more than 24 months can notice that their stuff is disappearing. The search engine could then begin removing the content. The email has clearly mentioned that if the users remain away from the services for more than 24 months then the content on those products would begin to disappear.
The changes would come to effect from June 1, 2021 but no content will be removed until June 1, 2023.
