Google to make two-step verification process as default

Search engine giant Google has always been vocal about proper authentication for the user’s accounts. On the occasion of World Password Day, the company pledged to introduce two-factor authentication as default for all the Google service users. Moreover, it will also automatically enroll the appropriately configured accounts which means people who already have a method in place like a phone number or a secondary email.

It is important for people to realize the importance of safety of their online accounts. Although years have passed, but a number of people continue to use some of the easiest passwords like, 123456, 11111 or 121212. The blunder happens when such people use the same password for the other sites like banks and this could lead to a severe consequence. So Google has come up with a solution and has announced that it would introduce two-factor authentication as default in the security setting. It helps to add an extra step when the user it trying to sign in.

Now the users will get a notification through a text message on their phone after they enter the password. In this way, the users will come to know that their account is being accessed. They will be asked for access. The two-step verification has been there since a long time and has been optionally available. It cannot be denied that the two-step verification process is more secure that the password alone, but a number of people do not want to use it for a number of reasons. One of the major reasons is that the user has to rely and trust on their phone number to a company that is known for selling personal information to the advertisers.

Another rare factor would be where a person might not have a phone number or shares the number with another person. For now it is not clear as to how the company would handle such situations.
