While the gamers are currently distracted with the newest consoles, Sony has silently dropped the firmware update v9.0 for the PlayStation firmware. The update has solved the problem of the internal CMOS battery. With the recent launch of the upgrade, it has proved the company’s loyalty towards its previous console users despite the fact that its PlayStation 5 has proved to be a big hit and is struggling to keep up its stocks due to excess demands.

Talking about the issue with PlayStation 4, the battery is responsible to power the internal clock that the console uses to check the eligibility for the game ownership. But when the battery is absent or when it drains naturally the digital and physical games are no longer playable without an online connection. But as per the recent reports, the problem has been solved with the v9.0 software update but surprisingly, it is not mentioned in the official patch notes of Sony. The problem had first surfaced in the month of April, 2021 and was brought to noticed by “Does It Play?” a Twitter account that talks about the game preservation and accessibility.

Moreover, the fan research had discovered that the issue also affected the Trophies as they need a date check before they are unlocked. But the good news is that majority of the PlayStation 4s have not experienced a CMOS battery death and even if someone’s does it could be said that most of the PlayStation 4s are connected to the internet.

But still the fans had opined that the problem needed to be solved to avoid any problems in future for the PS4 owners, especially those who play offline. Another issue is game preservation and the ability to play games for a longer time even there are problems with the PlayStation Network. In short, the changes are welcome and the new system update for PS5 has added ability to increase the SSD expansion.
