Apple allows users to report about scams on App Store

Just a month ago, predictions were made about the list of things that Apple would reportedly work on the proof that it puts the App store users much ahead of its profits. The company has actually acted on one of them as it will allow the users to directly report about an app that is scammy from its listing. On the App Store, it will have a new and improved version of its ‘Report a Problem’ tab.

Scam pointer Kosta Eleftheriou has mentioned on Twitter that the button has been brought for the individual app listings and that it has happened for the first time in years. it also includes the option of ‘Report a scam or fraud’ that can be found in the drop down menu. So far on iOS 15 the users could find the button only after scrolling all the way down of the Apps and Games option on the App Store and the users were then taken out of the website and would need to re-sign-in. This is when the users will be able to select from the choices including ‘Report a quality issue’, ‘Find my content’ or ‘request a refund’.

Sadly none of the options provided a clear way to report about a scam as the ‘Report suspicious activity’ would redirect the users to Apple Support. To make things worse, Apple would only allow the users to report about a quality issue if they have already paid money and have actually fallen for the scam. But thankfully now even the free apps with in-app purchases are likely to offer the option of ‘Report a Problem’. When the users checked on the free apps, they could find the option. However, the users would still be taken out of the website and would ask then to re-sign in, but this surely seems like a step forward.

But the question remains if Apple would take action on such apps.
