Nissan launches smartwatch Nismo

At a time when the wearable device market is expanding, Nissan claims that its new Nismo Concept Watch is the first smartwatch to connect drivers with their cars and offer them real-time biometric data. The company unveiled the new device just ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week.

This will be the first venture of Nissan into the wearable device market and the Nismo is designed specifically for Nissan Nismo cars. The device can be connected with the help of a smartphone app through Bluetooth and will allow drivers to monitor average speed and fuel consumption readings, access vehicle telematics and performance data while on track and receive custom car messages from Nissan.

A heart rate monitor also enables the capture of biometric data, with more technologies including ECG, EEG and Skin Temperature. Marketing Communications General Manager, Gareth Dunsmore said, “Wearable technology is fast becoming the next big thing and we want to take advantage of this innovative technology to make our Nismo Brand more accessible. On track, Nissan uses the latest biometric training technologies to improve the performance of our Nissan Nismo Athletes and it is this technology we want to bring to our fans to enhance their driving experience and Nismo ownership.”

The latest device by Nissan will also be able to track and rate the social performance of the user across Facebook and Twitter and will come in three colors – black, white and black and red.
