After a long wait, electronics manufacturing giant Sony announced its first Android HDMI dongle for TVs. The company’s new Bravia Smart Stick will enable users to access Google Play app store, Chrome internet browser and the company’s own apps.
The latest device comes with a built-in HDMI input and pass-through function and the set top box can also be connected to the dongle in order to search and view TV programs. The content search is additionally simplified thanks to a small touchpad controller with voice-recognition capability. The new dongle also works as an universal remote and makes it easier for users to operate the TV and set top box.
The only drawback is its pricing, as the company’s Bravia Smart Stick will retail for $150, which is much costlier than the Google Chromecast which is priced at $35. The Bravia Smart Stick is now available in the US, however, there is no mention yet when the device will reach the Asian market. The Japan-based company is promising that the device’s UI seamlessly integrates Google and Sony’s own Bravia apps and enables users to stay in a single menu in order to launch any of their apps.
