Microsoft launches Surface Pro docking station

US-based software giant Microsoft has launched the docking station for its Surface Pro and it is now available through the online store. Earlier, the company claimed that the device was not supposed to ship until early 2014.

The dock is priced at $199 and is compatible with both Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2. Apart from charging the docked tablet, it also comes with a display port, audio input and output connections, as well as an Ethernet port, one USB 3.0 port and three USB 2.0 ports. Some of the company’s latest Surface products seem to be constrained by supply shortages.

The online store of the company has mentioned that Surface Pro 2 configurations with 256 GB or 512 GB storage drives will not ship until the middle of December 2013. Additional reports have claimed that some customers have already received their docking stations and a representative from Microsoft in an emailed statement said that the docking station is available only in the US and Canada at the moment.

The docking station will be available through the website of Microsoft or Bestbuy.com. The representative confirmed that the dock will be widely available at the beginning of 2014. One of the most interesting features is the display port which will enable the Surface Pro to connect to an external monitor.
