Tablets to surpass smartwatches during 2013 holiday season

The holiday season is almost here and despite the introduction of smartwatches earlier in 2013, these devices will not be found on many wish lists. The new wearable devices are still too expensive and not practical enough to compete with gadgets such as tablets and fitness bands.

The introduction of smartwatches by the South Korean giant Samsung, as well as other well-known brands has been seen during 2013. However, market research company Gartner has said that such products are still uninspiring when ti comes to available applications, design and features. When a new product is introduced, users are usually expecting something more than just convenience.

Moreover, the category is supposed to be innovative and prices are between $200 and $300, which is still too expensive for the majority of buyers. Customers will opt to buy a basic tablet for the same price and with better features. During the upcoming holiday season, users are expected to pick up tablets instead of the wearable gadgets, as tablets offer them better value for their money.

Moreover, the majority of smartwatches introduced so far have an unattractive design, so it is essential for the companies to redesign their gadgets in order to make them more appealing to potential customers. The companies have to also understand that their smartwatches should not just have a good hardware, but must also have better apps and better accessibility.
