Google looking for Chromecast developers

Search engine giant Google is currently working on an official Cast SDK for its digital media dongle known as the Chromecast. The company is inviting Android developers to its headquarters to discuss allowing more third-party app compatibility with the device.

When it comes to tablets and smartphones, vendors are asking for help from developers in order to make their TVs and related accessories more interesting for consumers. Google is also hoping that it will attract developers towards its product and they are supposed to create apps for Chromecast with the help of the Cast SDK, which is only available as a developer preview for the time being.

The new Chromecast is a USB dongle which can be attached to a TV and allows users to view content from Netflix, Hulu Plus and Google’s own Play service through PCs, smartphones and tablets and is only available in the US. On November 21, 2013, Google has announced that it will be adding HBO Go to the Chromecast roster.

For developers, Google will soon host a two-day Hackathon and the event will take place at the company’s Googleplex headquarters in Mountain View on December 7, 2013 and December 8, 2013. All engineers will be there to share changes from the developer preview, answer questions and discuss best practices.
