Taiwanese tablet manufacturer Asus launched its Padfone Mini featuring a 7-inch tablet and a 4.3-inch smartphone on December 11, 2013. The new Asus Padfone Mini is a smaller and more affordable version of the Asus Padfone Infinity, which the company unveiled at 2013’s Mobile World Congress.
The specifications of the latest device suggest that the new Padfone Mini will be affordable. The device will have a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 1 GB of RAM under the bonnet of the phone, which is also used in the tablet counterpart. The Asus Padfone Mini runs on Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, which the company skinned in the customer user interface.
So far, there are no reports if it would get an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. Other specifications of the device include a dual-SIM slot, 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and 1,500 mAh battery. The Padfone Mini will be priced at NT$11,990 or £246 when it becomes available in Taiwan.
The device will be available in black, white and cherry milk variants. The company also confirmed that the Padfone Mini will be launched in the UK during the first half of 2014. The extra time will be taken as the UK launch needs extensive testing.
