Electronics manufacturing giant Sony is taking innovation ideas from its audio and camcorder sectors and is applying them to its brand new Xperia Z2 smartphone, which will feature noise-cancelling technology, in addition to ultra-high-definition video recording. The noise-cancelling technology works with an in-ear headset that is being sold separately and is priced at 60 euros.
The built-in camera of the Z2 can capture videos in 4k resolution, which is a technology that provides four times the details as current high-definition videos. The president and CEO of Sony, Kazuo Hirai said that the new lineup consists of “products that are built on the shoulders of 60 years of design, engineering and artistic excellence.”
The announcement was made on February 24, 2014 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The announcement came just weeks after reports stated that Sony is planning to sell its Vaio personal computer operations and is making its Bravia TV business a subsidiary company. More reports stated that the company will be cutting about 3 percent of its global workforce – or 5,000 people – by the end of March 2015.
With the new Z2 device, Sony is trying to introduce innovative products when it comes to hardware, while many unique features in the rival devices have been in the company’s software.
