Israel-based start-up company StoreDot showed a battery which has the ability to charge in less than 30 seconds. The device was displayed at Think Next Conference by Microsoft in Tel Aviv and is made of biological structures.
For instance, a dead battery of Samsung S4 smartphone went from not working at all to full power in just 26 seconds during a demonstration by the company. The demonstration showed the battery pack in a size of a cigarette, which was attached to the smartphone. The founder of the company, Dr. Dorn Myersdorf said, “We think we can integrate a battery into a smartphone within a year and have a commercially ready device in three years”.
The bio-organic battery makes use of very small self-assembling nano-crystals which were first identified in research which was done into Alzheimer’s disease at Tel Aviv University a decade ago. StoreDot said that the nano-dots as stable and robust spheres which are 2.1 nanometers in diameter and are made up of peptide molecules.
Moreover, the team has made use of the nano-crystals in memory chips which are able to write three times faster than the traditional flash memory and can be used as a non-toxic option to cadmium in screens.
