AT&T to launch HD Voice for network subscribers on May 23, 2014

AT&T is reportedly all set to offer HD Voice calling to network subscribers. As of May 23, 2014, the service provider will debut improved call quality on certain Voice Over LTE networks.

The system is tied to VoLTE and is different from T-Mobile’s approach. It has the ability to turn voice calls into Internet data on the new 4G LTE network. At the beginning, HD Voice will be available to Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini users in parts of Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and will reportedly be limited to calls between HD Voice-capable devices.

The roll out of the service will resume expanding on the market-by-market basis. The company will announce more compatible phones in the upcoming period. AT&T said, “At AT&T, you won’t have to choose between faster data speeds and crystal clear conversations”. The company went on to say that HD Voice customers can talk while surfing the web at 4G LTE speeds on the most reliable 4G LTE network in the United States.

The CEO of AT&T Wireless, Ralph de la Vega – during the 2014 Consumer Electronics show – said that the Asus Padfone X will be the first device which will be compatible with the new calling system. However, the latest announcement did not mention any tablet-phone combination.
