Sony Xperia Z3 gets release date

The all-new Sony Xperia Z3 gets a release date in North America.

Sony is planning on releasing its flagship phone, the Xperia Z3, on October 23, 2014. The phone will be available throughout North America. Sony’s flagship device will come with PlayStation 4 Remote Play, wherein players can use their Z3 to control the game via high-speed internet on a PlayStation 4. This technology is already available on the PS Vita and will be incorporated in the PlayStation TV when it launches.

The device was unveiled last month at the IFA show in Berlin. Traditionally, Sony has been slow in capturing the American market, but have decided to change things around this time. The phone is launching in North America within 2 months of its official unveiling.

Popular network carrier Verizon will release the phone on contract, however there has been no word on the release by T-Mobile. Earlier this week, a group on YouTube conducted an underwater unboxing of the phone, highlighting the water and dust resistant feature.

The device features a 5.2 inch display and a 20.7 megapixel rear camera. Users can connect their Z3 to a Dual-Shock 4 controller to play PS4 games on the phone.

Sony looks to gain a foothold in the American smartphone market, which has been dominated by Apple and Samsung for a long time now. Previously, only T-Mobile sold their phones, but now Sony has the backing of America’s largest network carrier – Verizon.
