Payment service Mastercard has come up with a unique technology that will scan biometric data from selfie taken during the time the user purchases anything online. The new technology is known as the ‘Selfie Pay’ which is an app that will scan biometric data from the photo and fingerprint.
Mastercard has announced that it will introduce the biometric checks this week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. All will be held in Mastercard’s own Identity Check app that has been created to streamline the verification process of the mobile payments.
While making online transactions credit card details will also have to be provided by the users. The president for enterprise safety at Mastercard, Ajay Bhalla said, “We want to identify people for who they are, not what they remember”. The user will have an option to either scan his or her finger print or take a short video selfie.
The countries which will join U.S. and Netherlands where the technology is already testing, include Belgium, U.K. , Italy, France, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Canada. The selfie payment technology is currently being tested in U.S. and Netherlands. Reports say that the technology was first tested in late summer and fall by the employees at First Tech Federal Credit Union in the US.
