Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has launched a new set of Snapdragon Wear Chips that are targeted towards the wearable devices. The announcement was made by the company at the Computex trade show in Taiwan on May 30, 2016.
The recent Snapdragon Wear 1100 chips are the latest version of the earlier announced wearable chips that have various functions. The latest chips from Qualcomm will be a part of devices that are targeted towards various audiences including kid’s watches or watches for the elderly crowd, smart headsets, fitness trackers and wearable accessories.
Senior director and business lead at Qualcomm, Pankaj Kedia said, “Snapdragon Wear 1100 is targeting purpose-built wearables, or those that are designed only around a few usage cases”. Kedia added that these chips require low power, are small in size, have high integration and provide a good connected experience.
The director added that the company is focusing on larger market for chips. The company started the wearable chips division in summer 2014 and recently announced that there are about a 100 wearable products based on Qualcomm’s technology.
