Still Have A Samsung Galaxy Note7? Exchange/Refund

Samsung have finally decided to trash the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 after the fire debacle that led to a massive recall of the device. Here’s what you need to do if you own a Samsung Galaxy Note7;

First, for your own safety, the phone maker has asked the Samsung Galaxy Note7 users to keep the devices off. Through their official website, Samsung announced that they are in global discussion with various mobile operators and retailers to come up with an exchange or refund program for the affected users.Those who purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note7 through Samsung’s website will receive gloves and fireproof packaging to safely return the gadgets.

What to do if you’re living in Asia?

Singapore

• Samsung users will receive the Samsung J1 Ace as a courtesy device loan. Singtel users can choose a refund or another device.

New Zealand

• The two major mobile operators are offering a full refund or an exchange to a different phone.

Thailand

•  Since the Samsung Galaxy Note7 was not on sale in Thailand, customers who pre-ordered this phone will get a full refund.

South Korea

• local mobile operators, namely; LG Uplus, SK Telecom and Korea Telecom are exchanging to other models or offering refunds.

Australia

• Those who bought the Samsung Galaxy Note7 and are subscribed to Telstra can choose another Samsung gadget and receive a $100 goodwill credit. Optus is exchanging the affected device with the Samsung Galaxy S7 or the S7 Edge.

Malaysia

• Finally in Malaysia, users can exchange with the S7 or get a full refund.

What’s next for Samsung? The problems with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 were reported days after the phone was launched in August with fire hazard issues. 2.5 million phones were recalled from ten major markets. As a result, the company will miss out on revenues topping $9.5 B with the holidays around the corner. The company’s next model, the S 8 is due next year.

It’s a federal crime to bring a Galaxy Note 7 onto an airplane. Last week on Friday, October 15 ‘The Federal Aviation Administration’ passed Emergency Restriction/Prohibition Order No. FAA-2016- 9288 and has officially banned Galaxy Note 7s from being carried onto planes. The order restricts passengers from carrying the phone under any circumstances and also states that anyone who inadvertently brings the phone on a plane must switch it off immediately. Carriers are also required to deny boarding to a passenger in possession of the phone.

Passengers who are found carrying Note 7 onto a plane will be subject to civil penalties up to $179,933 under 49 U.S.C. 5123 and they could also be prosecuted. This can also result in fines under title 18 and imprisonment upto ten years, or both.
