Skype users in UK and Europe face serious outage

Users of the video chatting site Skype faced a major outage issue and the app is facing criticism from the angry users

Users of the popular video chat and messenger app Skype in the UK and Europe experienced a major outage on June 20, 2017. Thousands of users have complained of a serious outage but still the accurate scale of the outage is yet to be determined. However, thousands of users have so far reported about the problem since 10:00 BST.

The latest outage has been reported just hours after the service came down on June 19, 2017. Software giant Microsoft acknowledged the problem on its official Skype Blog and said, “it was aware of an incident where users will either lose connectivity to the application and may be unable to send or receive messages.”

Many of the users will not be able to see the black bar that indicates that a group call is ongoing. The users of Skype continued to face problem till morning on June 20, 2017 and the number doubled in the last few hours. Data aggregator, DownDetector showed how thousands of users had reported the problem in the last hour. The report added that almost half of the reports that were reported were from the users who faced problem in logging in to the service. An angry group of Skype users took their Twitter accounts to express their anger. One of them wrote, “I get to talk to an old friend who’s really busy ONCE in literal months and Skype has to be down. Screw you Skype, seriously”

The video chatting site had at 1:45 am in the UK claimed that the connectivity issues were solved but the problems continued on June 20, 2017. However, this is not the first time the popular video chatting and messenger service faced an outage. In September 2015 the users of Skype faced a 15 hour ling outage. At that time Microsoft had claimed that it was due to a larger-than-usual change in the configuration.
