South Korean giant Samsung has started rolling out the Android Oreo update to its Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge phones in May 2017. Despite having a promising flagship smartphone line, the latest Android 8.0 Oreo has not yet arrived on the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge. Moreover the company has not yet given out an official launch date. However, some recent reports have suggested that the update will soon start rolling out.
A Turkish website, which gives out the latest updates on gadgets has said that the Android 8.0 Oreo update will begin rolling out from May 18, 2018. But when the update will actually make it to all the phones is a completely different matter. The rollout can depend on the network and the date cannot be inaccurate. Some of the carriers take a longer time to roll out the updates. The first ones to receives the updates could be the unlocked phones and those who are locked to the networks might have to wait for a little longer.
The Android Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 was delayed after a few issues. Since the report came from a Turkish site the UK might not have the same launch date. After Samsung Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge got the Android Marshmallow, it did not get the Android Nougat update till seven months after the software was released. The Android 8.0 Oreo was launched on August 21, 2017 which made it a nine month wait till May 2018.
Users of the older Samsung Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge will no longer be able to have support by the updates from Samsung which means they will not be able to have the Android Oreo. The Android Oreo features include improved multitasking, better battery life, wider picture in picture feature, new emojis, new settings menu, auto enabling of Wi-Fi when at home, better smart selecting of text and more.
