Skype to take back new updates after negative feedback

Skype is one of the most popular online messaging and video calling services by Microsoft. However, the US based software giant has announced that it will be removing many of its features that were similar to Snapchat. An update was released by the software giant in June 2017. However, many of its users have expressed that they feel that the new features have made the interface increasingly complicated and gets in way of the core uses which includes messaging and making phone calls.

The software giant will be reducing the navigation options from five to three and will remove the highlight buttons and camera. Most of the users could not resonate with most of the updates. Microsoft had announced the new updates in June 2017 and then Microsoft had said, “We know this was a big change and we welcome feedback along the way.We’re confident that as we continue to listen to users and provide updates to the app… we’ll be able to keep improving the experience.”

Now that Microsoft is preparing to take the updates back, Skype design director Peter Skillman wrote on his blog, “This past year we explored some design changes and heard from customers that we over-complicated some of our core scenarios.” The Skype service was released in 2003 and was acquired by Microsoft in 2011.

At present similar services are being provided by many of the names in the market like Instagram, Facebook’s Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and Snapchat. All these names provide similar features and many have copied the ideas from one another. One of the most noticeable feature is that of the Stories feature which has been taken from Snapchat. Microsoft’s decision to take back the features has indicated that it is aware that the desktop app needs a few changes to remain relevant in the market and be competent among other services.
