Puma launches revised version of RS smart sneakers

Sports wearables giant Puma had back in 1986 launched the RS Computer Sneaker which is the OG smart running shoes which had a computer chip build in its heel module. The shoes could record the distance, time and calories and was then considered extremely advanced for its time. After thirty two years, the sportswear giant has brought back the high tech shoes despite the fact that the market is flooded with modern day wearables.

The company has upgraded its RS (Running System) show which has sophisticated tech features and has maintained the same retro design. In terms of the material it still has textile and leather upper, multiplex four midsole technology, padded collar, a rubber outsole and an extended TPU heel which once had the computer ship. Earlier the computer installed at the heel of the RS had translated the data and gave the runners the ability to compare the past runs and gave future goals and understood how to become more faster, efficient and competitive.

Now a cable is not needed to connect to a computer but instead it is used to charge the shoe through a USB connector. The shoe has Bluetooh technology and can be used to connect to an Android or an iOS smartphone with a dedicated RS computer shoe app which stores all the relevant in the info with a suitably retro inspired interfact, which used 8 bit graphics, like can be seen on the original computer screens.

The new version has a miniature 3 axis accelerometer which is used to measure the key metrics. Each shoe has been designed to record up to 30 days worth data every month. There are two keys, red and green. The red one shows daily step target status while the green shows battery status. The sales of the shoes will begin at Puma stores in London, Tokyo and Berlin and online from December 13, 2018.
